The Michelstadt high school is a state high school in Michelstadt . It is the only general high school in the Odenwaldkreis and with around 1400 students and over 100 teachers, it is one of the largest schools in Hessen . history

Today's Michelstadt high school was founded in 1823 at the suggestion of Count Albrecht zu Erbach-Fürstenau as a Progymnasium. After the early years in the Michelstadt winery , from 1828 it was located in the specially built building at Bahnhofsstraße 31. In 1834 it was rededicated as a secondary school. In 1878 the company moved to its current location.

building

The oldest building in use is the listed A-building , inaugurated in 1878 and built in the style of late classicism . Due to the increase in the number of pupils, the school was expanded to include several new buildings in 1957, 1965, in the 1980s and 2007. Together with the sports hall and the so-called art barn , the school currently consists of eight buildings that form a common campus.

Lessons offered

In addition to the usual subjects and the first foreign language, English , Latin , French , Spanish , Russian and Italian are offered as second and third foreign languages. As part of the classification as a MINT-EC school, another focus is placed on the natural sciences.
