Heinrich Jakob Dingeldein (born May 9, 1953 in Würzberg im Odenwald , now part of Michelstadt ) is a German linguist and cultural scientist and former local politician in Marburg , who researched and taught at the Philipps University . He is an honorary professor ("profesor onorific") and doctoral supervisor ("conducător de doctorat") in philology at the Lucian Blaga University in Sibiu / Hermannstadt in Romania .

Studies and exams

After graduating from the Michelstadt high school in 1971 , Dingeldein studied German language and literature , political science , pedagogy , Protestant theology and European ethnology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and the Philipps University in Marburg . In 1977 he passed the state examination for teaching at grammar schools. After completing a master's degree in linguistics in San Marino in 1987 , he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . In 1997 he qualified as a professor at Marburg University in the subject of German linguistics; in the same year he was appointed private lecturer , in 2003 he was appointed professor in the field of German and art studies .

Professional career

From 1977, Dingeldein worked as a research assistant at what is now the Research Center for the German Language Atlas at Marburg University in the Hesse-Nassau dictionary headed by Hans Friebertshäuser . In 1994 he was appointed head of the Language in Hesse and Hesse-Nassau dictionary. In the autumn semester of 1992 he was visiting professor at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest .

After Dingeldein had held block seminars in German linguistics in Sibiu since 1994 and was able to set up a master’s course at the Lucian Blaga University in cooperation with Romanian colleagues and other lecturers from Marburg University , the latter appointed him honorary professor for German linguistics in 1997 ; In 2007, the Romanian Minister of Education was appointed full doctoral supervisor in the field of philology.

In 1998, Dingeldein took over the management of the International Summer Course at Philipps University, founded by Eduard Koschwitz in 1896 , from which he developed the current International Summer University (ISU) ; He was scientific director from 1999 to 2009.

Between 2000 and 2003 he was Vice President for Studies and Teaching on the Presidium of the Philipps University of Marburg .

Dingeldein retired early in 2016 due to illness.

Honorary positions

Dingeldein was examiner for the state examination in German at the Academic Examination Office for teaching at grammar schools in Marburg. He is a full member of the Hessian Academy for Research and Planning in Rural Areas ; from 2003 to 2008 he was its first deputy chairman. In cooperation with colleagues from the neighboring subject area, he tried to combine issues of linguistics and cultural anthropology or European ethnology , especially in teaching . He regularly communicates scientific findings from his fields of work in contributions to programs of the Hessischer Rundfunk and other media.

Dingeldein speaks German (also in the form of a Rhine-Franconian dialect) as foreign languages ​​English, French, Romanian, Afrikaans and Esperanto ; he reads and corresponds in Yiddish , and he also translates from the “ancient languages” Latin, Greek and Hebrew.
