The Hôtel Boistouset in Besancon , a city in Doubs in the French region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté is a mansion from the 18th century, located at the address 3/5 rue de la Convention. The building is since 1942 as a monument ( monument historique protected).

history

The Hôtel Boistouset, located opposite the Besançon Cathedral , was built for Canon Charles-François-Denis d'Agay from 1744 to 1750 .

During the French Revolution , the building was auctioned off as national property in 1794 . In 1910 it was bought by the Archdiocese of Besançon and has been used as the Archbishop's residence ever since .

architecture

The building with a symmetrical, U-shaped floor plan is separated from the street by a wall and a splendid portal in Rocaille style. The facade of the middle residential wing consists of stone and is structured by pilasters . The top floor is adorned with a sundial in a baroque style . The building is attributed to the architect Germain Boffrand , who at that time stayed in Besançon to submit an offer to the cathedral chapter to decorate the apse of the Shroud of Christ. The neighboring Archbishop's Palace Besançon also came from him .

The portal with a wrought iron gate is bordered by two pilasters crowned with medallions.
