The Höhenweg is a hiking trail in the Fichtel Mountains . It is around 48 kilometers long and leads over the highest mountains in the Fichtelgebirge, with the exception of the Ochsenkopf . The Fichtelgebirgsverein looks after this path, which is marked with a white H on a red background.

Route

The path begins in Schwarzenbach an der Saale and runs almost exclusively on paved paths and forest paths to the Kleiner Waldstein rock formation . It continues on smaller forest paths to the Großer Waldstein . From there it goes downhill on forest roads to Weißenstadt , along the Weißenstädter See . This first section runs largely parallel to the Jean-Paul-Weg .

From Weißenstadt the path briefly runs together with the lake path and there also meets the Saar-Schlesien-Weg, with which it runs parallel to the finish in Wunsiedel, and in some cases it also meets the Franconian mountain path . A Camino de Santiago also runs parallel for a short distance. There the route runs mainly on forest paths that become more and more stony in the direction of Wunsiedel. First of all, the paths lead to Rudolfstein and the Three Brothers . There the lake path takes a different course, while the high path leads up to the Schneeberg . The marked route, however, turns left shortly before the summit with the Backöfele observation tower and continues to Nußhardt with a view of the Schneeberg and the neighboring Ochsenkopf mountain. Past the Seehaus accommodation facility , you reach the Platte rock formation and then the Silberhaus, where the path crosses a street. Via the Hohe Mätze you continue to the Kisseine . The path is marked twice at a crossroads: On the one hand, it continues in the direction of Haberstein, but there is also a detour uphill to the Kisseinehaus. Past the rock labyrinth of the Luisenburg , the path finally reaches the end point in Wunsiedel .

The marking density is lower in the Wunsiedel area.
