Former manor and saddle farm (mansion from 1673), Habighorst
Georg Ernest von Melvill (1668–1742)

Habighorst was first mentioned in documents in 1291 under the name Havichhorst. Since the 15th century, the place has been the ancestral seat of the Habighorst ministerial family. In a loan deed from 1427, a Luderus Havichors is enfeoffed with several farm positions. In 1702 Georg Ernest von Melvill was enfeoffed with the manor, later general and governor of the Hameln Fortress. He was the son of the Scottish Major General Andre` de Melvill and trained as a page at the court of Duke Georg Wilhelm. His mother was the Huguenot Nymphe de la Motte - Chevallerie.

In 1916, Habighorst began mining potash from the Fallersleben mine, which was operated by the mining company founded five years earlier. After merging with the Mariaglück shaft in Höfer , Mariaglück also began mining in 1922. In 1924 the Fallersleben shaft was shut down again and only provided ventilation for the system and served as a second mobile exit for the Mariaglück shaft.

The Habighorster Höhe was created when there was a great need for housing for mining families and refugees (from former German eastern areas ) in the 1950s .

On January 1, 2014, the joint municipality of Eschede with its member municipalities Eschede, Habighorst, Höfer and Scharnhorst was dissolved and a single municipality of Eschede was established.
