Habitam Alemu Bayih (born July 9, 1997 ) is an Ethiopian middle-distance runner who specializes in the 800-meter run .

Athletic career

Habitam Alemu gained her first international experience at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing , where she was eliminated in the first round with 2: 03.19 minutes . She then took part in the Africa Games in Brazzaville , where she finished fourth in 2: 02.29 minutes. The following year she reached sixth place at the World Indoor Championships in Portland in 2: 04.61 minutes and also qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 2: 00.07 minutes . In 2017 she again took part in the World Championships in London and also reached the semi-finals there , in which she was eliminated with 2: 00.69 minutes. In 2018 she finished fourth at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham in 2: 01.10 min and won the bronze medal at the African Championships in Asaba in 1: 58.86 min behind the South African Caster Semenya and Francine Niyonsaba from Burundi.
