Hades Almighty is a pagan metal band from Bergen (Norway) , which was known under the name Hades from 1992 to 1999 .
Band history
Jørn Inge Tunsberg, former guitarist of Immortal , and Remi (drums) founded Hades in 1992. The name came from a song on the Bathory debut album Bathory . In contrast to the black metal scene around them, they resorted to pagan rather than satanic themes. In 1993 they found other comrades-in-arms with Janto Garmanslund (bass, vocals) and Nagel (second guitar) and in the same year brought out the demo Alone Walkyng . In the black metal underground of the time , the band became known very quickly and was able to sign with Full Moon Productions for their debut album . However, Tunsberg's prison sentence for setting fire to a church in Åsane, which he served in 1993, also contributed to her reputation in the underground . Unlike some other bands, however, Hades did not use this for self-presentation to the media and thus achieved less fame than many other Norwegian bands; Tunsberg emphasizes, however, that he still stands behind the crime.
In December 1994 … Again Shall Be was released . The band name was Norway added to any problems with the American band of the same name submissions. Nagel got out before the recordings and was replaced by Stig Hagens. In 1996 the demo was re-released on Wounded Love Records, a sub-label of Avantgarde Music .
In 1997 the album The Dawn of the Dying Sun was released , on which the band used traditional instruments such as jaw harp and violin . The vinyl version also included the debut and was limited to 1,000 units. Hades then toured Europe, the USA and Mexico, among others.
In 1998, work began on the successor of Dawn of the Dying Sun . After a tour with Mayhem and Primordial through the Benelux countries and a subsequent tour with Immortal and Benediction , the band finally renamed themselves Hades Almighty. Millenium Nocturne , their third album, was released in 1999 and was published by Hammerheart Records and licensed by Nuclear Blast . Stig Hagenes then left the band.
In 2001, Hades Almighty's last album to date, The Pulse of Decay, was released . Except for a re-release of this last album, things got quiet around the band from then on. With Tunsberg focusing on his other band dominance and Garmanslund and Remi being busy with their children and their other projects, the band was inactive for some time. In 2010 Displeased Records released Alone Walkyng and … Again Shall Be together and The Dawn of the Dying Sun with unreleased material, unlike the original pressings, the re-releases were mastered for the first time .
Garmanslund left Hades Almighty in 2014, and Ask Ty ( Kampfar's drummer ) has been the band's singer since 2015 . In October 2015 the EP Pyre Era, Black! as a download and in June 2016 as a split CD, vinyl record and cassette with Drudkh on Dark Essence Records and Season of Mist Underground Activists .
