The Haema AG is the largest private blood establishment in the Federal Republic of Germany . As a pharmaceutical company , it produces finished medicinal products for immediate transfusion in patient care in clinics and medical practices, as well as blood plasma for further processing in the pharmaceutical industry.
history
Haema has its origins in a company founded by the Free State of Saxony and the districts of Oschatz and Döbeln in 1993 under the name Labor Diagnostika GmbH. In 1996 the company was privatized . One year later, the regional blood donation center Grimma , one of the oldest blood donation facilities in Germany (founded in 1954), was taken over.
Haema Holding AG ( Berlin ) was taken over in 2002 . Here the city of Leipzig was able to prevail against Berlin in the battle for the company headquarters. The centralization of key corporate areas at the Leipzig location was completed in 2005. Until November 2012, the company headquarters was in Bio City Leipzig. Since December 2012, the company has been located in Landsteinerstrasse on the grounds of the old Leipzig trade fair .
In 2010, Wolfgang Strauch, who privatized the communal company, resigned as a long-term managing director and board member.
In 2014, Knud-Peter Krause resigned as a long-term managing director and board member. In 2018 Jörg Fahrenbach and Katrin Scholz left the company. In addition to Barbara Baumann-Baretti and José Rivero, Rudolf E. Meixner, Ainhoa Mendizabal and Josef R. Spiessl have also been on the Haema AG Management Board since July 27, 2018.
Haema AG was a 100% subsidiary of Aton GmbH until May 2018 . In March 2018, the complete takeover of Haema by Grifols was agreed, in December Haema was sold to the Dutch investment group Scranton Enterprises, which is a Grifols shareholder.
At present (2020) there are 41 Haema donation centers in Germany, there are twelve centers in Saxony, six in Berlin, five in Thuringia , four in North Rhine-Westphalia , three in Brandenburg , two in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , seven in Bavaria and one each in Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein .
Products and services
Haema AG operates a nationwide blood donation service and provides services in transfusion medicine. The following drugs from blood and plasma are available:
- Red cell concentrate
- Platelet apheresis concentrate
- Fresh frozen plasma
- Special preparations
Haema AG also offers transfusion medicine services:
- Takeover of the function of the external transfusion officer
- Assumption of the function of the quality officer for hemotherapy
- Advice on the use of blood products
- Transfusion medical on-call service
- Special transfusion medicine laboratory
- Advice on questions of laboratory organization
In addition, therapeutic approaches are available for:
- Microcirculation disorders
- Immunological diseases
- Lipid metabolism disorders
- Inhibitor hemophilia
- Iron metabolism disorders
5% of the blood requirement in Germany is covered by independent donation services , of which 4% by Haema.
