Hagen Blau (* 1935 ) is a former diplomat and was an agent in the service of the Ministry for State Security of the GDR (MfS).

Life

Blau was recruited as an agent with the code name Detlev as early as 1960 during his studies at the Free University of Berlin by employees of the MfS .

Blau studied ethnology , sociology and political science at the Free University of Berlin , where he soon focused on Japanese studies and Chinese studies . During his studies, Blau joined the Socialist German Student Union (SDS) and joined the SPD in 1958 . After his doctorate as Dr. phil. Blau began his career as a diplomat in the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1961 , where he last held the position of lecturing councilor - parallel to his work for the MfS. Blau worked for the Foreign Office in Cairo , London , Tokyo , Vienna and Sri Lanka .

From 1962 to 1982 Blau was married to a German interpreter. This marriage has two sons. He has been married to a Japanese woman since 1983.

His original code name Detlev was soon replaced by the new code name Merten . In the files of the MfS he was registered as an “ officer in special operations ” (OibE). The command officers of Blau were MfS Colonel Werner Roitzsch and MfS Lieutenant General Werner Großmann . It was not until 1990 that he was exposed by his former commanding officer and defector Werner Roitzsch, and on November 15 of the same year he was sentenced to six years' imprisonment, of which he had to serve four years. After his release from prison, Blau initially worked as a functionary of the VVN-BdA , the state association of North Rhine-Westphalia . Today he lives in Japan with his second wife .
