Wolfgang Hainke

Wolfgang Hainke (born December 3, 1944 in Bad Warmbrunn ) is a German artist who lives in Bremen .

Hainke works in the areas of printmaking, performance , mail art and multiples , among others . Some of his works were created in open work situations with artist friends ( collaborations ). Since 1973 he has been teaching experimental printing processes at the University of Bremen . In 1979 he published a manual on screen printing .

In 1980, Hainke set up the wall installation sample books (samples without value) in the Bremen University Library. The work, which partly consisted of National Socialist books, was covered with a curtain at the request of the library management in 1993 and was finally removed with the consent of the university management, as the presentation of such books as part of a work of art was found to be politically problematic. His work on the Central Micro-Film-Archive (The Whole Earth Catalog / Das Zentrale Mikro-Film-Archiv / Le Musée sentimental) , a reversible tablet book with around 500 microfiches, which he began in 1982, ended in the early 1990s with the breakthrough of the digital one Media. At the documenta 8 (1987) in Kassel he realized with seven artist friends a. a. Jürgen O. Olbrich the 'expanded performance' City Souvenir . The W (H) / ALE plant was established in 1992 . A remake portfolio consisting of a cherry wood box with 24 prints (1993–2001) and other materials from various artists. In 2006 the artist book Visions & Re-Visions on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams was published . In addition to documenting an exhibition, the book reproduces numerous contributions by artists, art and cultural historians. From October 15, 2006 to January 21, 2007, he set up an exhibition as an artist curator in the Kunsthalle Bremen and re-arranged the collection of the Kunsthalle Bremen in all rooms. His work “It's all about George”, an offset print on truck tarpaulin, can be seen in the Fluxus documentation of the museum FLUXUS + .

In 2015 the artist book w (h) ale - on view was published. Ascend / descend. On disappearance as a principle (H&H Schierbrok Edition). The book is considered to be the conclusion of the whale project, which began in 1992 with the exhibition at the Städtische Galerie Bremen and contains 36 contributions, among others by Klaus Barthelmeß, Michael Glasmeier, Wolfgang Hainke, Richard Hamilton.
