Halfdan Hansen, who for the Kongelig Norsk Seilforening sailed, was in 1912 in Stockholm at the Olympic Games in the 12-meter class Olympic champion . He was a crew member of the Magda IX , which took first place in both races of the regatta and thus won the competition ahead of the only two competitors, the Swedish boat Erna Signe from skipper Nils Persson and the Finnish boat Heatherbell from skipper Ernst Krogius . The crew of the Magda IX also included Alfred Larsen , who was also the owner of the Magda IX , as well as Nils Bertelsen , Eilert Falch-Lund , Christian Staib , Petter Larsen , Magnus Konow , Arnfinn Heje and Carl Thaulow . The yacht was skippered by Johan Anker , who he also designed.

His son Børre Falkum-Hansen won the silver medal in the 5.5 meter class in Helsinki in 1952 . At Easter 1953, Hansen was surprised by a blizzard while skiing and froze to death. His body was found the next day, April 2, 1953.
