Gustav Carl Thaulow (born October 23, 1875 in Oslo ; † May 30, 1942 there ) was a Norwegian sailor .

Life

Carl Thaulow, who for the Kongelig Norsk Seilforening sailed, was in 1912 in Stockholm at the Olympic Games in the 12-meter class Olympic champion . He was a crew member of the Magda IX , which took first place in both races of the regatta and thus won the competition ahead of the only two competitors, the Swedish boat Erna Signe from skipper Nils Persson and the Finnish boat Heatherbell from skipper Ernst Krogius . The crew of the Magda IX also included Alfred Larsen , who was also the owner of the Magda IX , as well as Nils Bertelsen , Eilert Falch-Lund , Christian Staib , Petter Larsen , Magnus Konow , Arnfinn Heje and Halfdan Hansen . Johan Anker was the skipper and designer of the yacht .

After a first exam in 1894, he finished his training at the Krigsskolen in 1895 . In 1901 he obtained a diploma from the Technical University of Dresden before he worked for a while in the United States . In 1910 he moved to Kristiania, today's Oslo, where he started to work in an engineering office. He later worked for a magazine. His father Johan Fredrik Thaulow was the head of the medical service of the Norwegian army with the rank of lieutenant general and from 1889 to 1905 chairman of the Norwegian Red Cross .
