geography

course

The Hammerbach rises near Mitterbuch in the municipality of Buch am Buchrain in the Upper Bavarian district of Erding and flows consistently in a northerly direction, past Hammersdorf to the west and Walpertskirchen to the east, where it crosses the Munich – Simbach railway line . At the solitude of Operding in the municipality of Walpertskirchen, it flows into the Strogen after a run of 10.3 km, which itself is only 7.4 km long from its source to there.

Catchment area

The Hammersbach has a catchment area of 15.4 km² in which there is a large forest area on both sides of the central reaches around the Hammersdorf clearing island. It borders in turn on the catchment areas of the following neighboring waters:

  • in the north the small Schwaberbach still drains at Operding, further down the Kinzlbach into the Strogen;
  • in the east the streams run to the Isen , a tributary of the Inn , which is why the hydrologically most important watershed runs here;
  • in the south-west there is a short catchment area of the Schwillach , which drains like the Strogen to the Sempt ;
  • all the rest of the left watershed to the west runs to the strogen . Its sub-catchment area up to the inlet of the Hammerbach is only 10.1 km², a third below its own.

Tributaries

The Hammerbach has no named tributaries.
