The 16th European women's handball championship is scheduled to take place from November 28 to December 15, 2024 in Austria , Switzerland and Hungary . For the first time, a women's European championship will be held with 24 teams. The organizer is the European Handball Federation (EHF).
Host
At an extraordinary congress on January 25, 2020, the EHF awarded the event on the sidelines of the final weekend of the men's European handball championship in the Swedish capital Stockholm . The joint application from Austria ( Austrian Handball Federation ), Switzerland ( Swiss Handball Association ) and Hungary ( Hungarian Handball Association ) prevailed in the second ballot against the joint application from Poland , Slovakia and the Czech Republic . Russia's application was eliminated in the first ballot.
Venues
Four halls in the three countries are planned as venues for the tournament. The preliminary round groups are played in Basel, Innsbruck and Debrecen. The main round will be played in Debrecen and Budapest. The finals will then be played in Budapest. The new hall in Budapest has been under construction since September 2019 and is due to be completed in November 2021.
