The Austrian Handball Federation , or ÖHB for short , is the umbrella organization for Austrian handball based in Vienna .

The association was founded on January 25, 1925, he took over the area of ​​responsibility of the athletics association. Field handball championships have been held since 1923, and a national team was formed in 1925 . Alfred Schindler became the first president. Today ( as of 2004 ) the association has around 17,500 members in almost 140 clubs.

The Austrian Handball Federation is a member of the International Handball Federation and the European Handball Federation , with which it maintains excellent connections. Erwin Lanc, for example, was President of the IHF for a long time. So it came about that the EHF moved its headquarters to Vienna in November 1991.

The Austrian Handball Federation organizes the Spusu League , the Spusu Challenge for men, the Women Handball League Austria (WHA) , the Bundesliga Women (BLF) and the ÖHB Cup . For men, the "Under 20" competitions (HLA U20, BLM U20) and for women the WHA junior competition (WHA U18) are also organized.

In 2010, the ÖHB hosted the 9th European Men's Handball Championship .

In 2020, the ÖHB will host the 14th men's handball European championship together with Sweden and Norway .
