action

Conor is new to boarding school and is forced to share a room with Ned Roche. In the room, Ned has hung photos of Dita Von Teese, and when Conor is assigned to his room, he first erects a wall that runs through the middle of the room. But soon an unexpected friendship develops between the 16-year-old loner with the striking red hair and the model athlete Conor, who is admired by his rugby-loving classmates and promoted by his rugby coach Pascal O'Keeffe. Ned, on the other hand, had been unable to convince his widowed father and cool stepmother that a boarding school where rugby is celebrated like a religion was wrong for him. Ned, who feels out of place there, is ridiculed by many for his sexuality, which his classmates conclude from his lack of love for rugby, above all by Weasel.

What connects Ned and Conor is music, and together they start playing the guitar. When her English teacher Dan Sherry, who supports her musical interest, encourages her to take part in a regional talent competition at a neighboring girls' school, Conor has to decide whether to maintain his hyper-male image as an athlete or to stick to his new love for music. Ned, on the other hand, struggles with whether he wants to betray the trust he has recently gained in his new friend and tell the school administration about a secret in order to save his own skin.

Reviews

So far, the film has won over 82 percent of Rotten Tomatoes ' critics .

David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter says you are familiar with many of the key elements John Butler used in the film, such as Rebel Bully Geek Pariah by Erin Jade Lange , the gay "jock", the inspiring English teacher or the homophobic rugby coach, but these The sweetness, the heat and the airy mood made the film simply irresistible. About Fionn O'Shea Rooney says this proves unexpectedly a lot of courage, and bring a healthy intelligence in his role, rather than simply be another red-haired weakling, and Nicholas Galitzine imagine the increasing pain of his character with delicacy and grace. Even Andrew Scott is excellent, says Rooney, who initially played the English teacher Dan Sherry impatiently before he, like the two students at the traditional school, drops his mask and shows his softer and warmer side.

Michael O'Sullivan of Film Ireland Magazine believes the film is a satisfactory study of masculinity and is an encouraging message to youngsters not to be gagged by stereotypes when they feel unnatural.
