history

In the amendment to the Reichsgewerbeordnung dated June 24, 1897, the following was standardized: “Chambers of craftsmen are to be established to represent the interests of your district.” As a result, chambers of craftsmen were formed across the empire and in 1900 in Darmstadt and Frankfurt as well. The chamber in Darmstadt was responsible for the entire Grand Duchy of Hesse . On May 25, 1900, the constituent session of the Chamber took place. The President of the Darmstadt Chamber, the Mainz entrepreneur Jean Falk represented the Chamber of Crafts in the First Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

In 1943, the Darmstadt and Frankfurt Chamber of Crafts were dissolved and integrated into the Rhine-Main Gauwirtschaftskammer together with the Frankfurt am Main Chamber of Commerce . With the end of the war at the end of April 1945, the newly founded Chamber of Commerce , Industry and Crafts Frankfurt am Main became the successor organization. The amalgamation of the IHK and the Chamber of Crafts was canceled by the victorious powers all over Germany. With a ministerial decision of April 1, 1946, the chambers of crafts were rebuilt. In Frankfurt, at least in terms of space, the chambers remained “under one roof” until 1957. In 1957 the Chamber of Crafts moved into its current building on Bockenheimer Landstrasse.

The Darmstadt Chamber of Crafts lost a considerable part of its chamber area after the war. By separating from Rheinhessen , which came to the newly formed Rhineland-Palatinate , today's Chamber of Crafts Rheinhessen was formed in Mainz .

The Rhine-Main Chamber of Crafts was created in 1979 through the merger of the previously independent chambers in Darmstadt and Frankfurt. The legal basis was the "Ordinance on the reorganization of the Chambers of Craftsmen of 7 September 1978". On September 1, 2011 the chamber was renamed the Chamber of Crafts Frankfurt-Rhein-Main .
