Haneken ferry
Hanekenfähr (older spellings also Hanneken- or Haneckenfähr ) is an area on the Ems between Lingen ( Schepsdorf and Darme ) and Emsbüren ( Elbergen ) in the Emsland district .
Until the 19th century, the Ems was crossed by a ferry at this point . The Ems and Dortmund-Ems Canal join two kilometers before the Gleesen lock and thus form the first common course from the Dortmund-Ems Canal (DEK) and the navigable Ems to the Emswehr in Hanekenfähr. Today, Hanekenfähr is important as a junction in the Ems waterway network and as a local recreation area . The Ems forms the municipal boundary between Emsbüren and Lingen. There is also an adjacent industrial area , which lowers the quality of the local recreation area due to the noise emissions.
Waterways
In Hanekenfähr, the Ems and Dortmund-Ems Canal unite for a short section . In addition, the Ems-Vechte Canal begins in Hanekenfähr, although it is only important for recreational boating today. Several marinas are located around Hanekenfähr. The Ems is dammed by a weir below the Dortmund-Ems Canal in order to ensure a constant water level in the canal. The Ems is reached through a historic, listed lock from 1876.
Recreation
In the headland between the Ems and Dortmund-Ems Canal there is a hotel , a campsite and a holiday home area. The area on the banks of the Ems and the associated canals is popular with walkers, joggers and cyclists.
Small passenger ships regularly set off from a landing stage at Hanekenfähr for excursions. A large number of leisure and sport boats are moored in several ports around Hanekenfähr .
industrial area
North of Hanekenfähr is the industrial area Lingen-South , where among other things the former nuclear power plant in Lingen , the natural gas power plant Emsland , the Emsland nuclear power plant , a large substation of West Network , the electric steel plant Benteler , the chemical plant Baerlocher and some other industrial plants are located.
