Hanfried Kruger

Hanfried Krüger (born April 12, 1914 in Schwerin ; † December 11, 1998 in Frankfurt am Main ) was an Evangelical Lutheran theologian , senior church councilor , ecumenist and journalist .

Live and act

After obtaining his university entrance qualification , Krüger first studied law in Rostock, then Protestant theology . With one of Friedrich Heiler supervised dissertation, he was in 1937 at the University of Marburg to Dr. phil. PhD. After his ordination in 1940 he did military service in the Second World War and from 1943 to 1951 worked as a pastor in the parish of Lauenstein . He then became a councilor in the regional church office in Hanover . From 1953 to 1979 he was senior church councilor in the EKD's external church office in Frankfurt a. M. responsible for questions of ecumenism. In addition, from 1956 to 1980 he headed the Ecumenical Center in Frankfurt, the office of the Working Group of Christian Churches in Germany (ACK), and from 1956 to 1976 he was secretary of the German Ecumenical Study Committee (DÖSTA).

Krüger published a large number of books and articles on ecclesiastical and ecumenical topics. He also emerged as the editor of a church magazine: from 1956 to 1984 he was editor of the “ Ökumenische Rundschau ”. In 1978 he became a lecturer and in 1982 honorary professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz .

Since the founding of the Christian Peace Conference (CFK) he has worked on its committees.
