Hankook Tire Co. is a South Korean manufacturer of tires for cars and trucks . Hankook (kor. 한국 ) is a Romanized Korean name for ' Korea '. The company was founded in 1941 as Chosun Tire Industrial co . In 2015 the company was the sixth largest tire manufacturer in the world.

It uses different names in some countries, in England Hankook Tire and Germany Hankook Tire .

From 2003 to 2011 there was a strategic alliance between Hankook and Michelin .

Hankook was or is original equipment manufacturer for tires at BMW ( Mini ), since 2003 temporarily for the Volkswagen Group ( Golf , Bora , Audi A3 , Seat Ibiza and others), as well as other brands and manufacturers such as Ford ( Mondeo ), Mercedes-Benz , General Motors , Volvo , Daihatsu , Mitsubishi , Hyundai and Kia .

Since 2009, the Volkswagen models Caddy, Caddy Maxi, Polo, Golf VI and Tiguan and Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan and California have been equipped with Hankook tires from the Hungarian plant in Rácalmás south of Budapest.

After tire manufacturer Dunlop left the DTM at the end of 2010, Hankook has been the sole tire supplier to the racing series since 2011.

On September 2, 2013, Daimler-Benz AG announced that it would also equip the S-Class and E-Class car models with Hankook tires. Hankook is also the supplier of the BMW 1 Series and MINI (as of 2016) and has been the original supplier of the BMW 3 Series models since 2012 . The Tesla Model 3 is to be equipped with tires from Hankook Tire (as of 2016).

Sponsorship

Hankook was and is a sponsor of sports and motorsport activities. For example in the UEFA Europa League , Borussia Dortmund , Northampton Saints , Lyon Olympique Universitaire Équipe Pro (French rugby team), the DTM and the Formula 3 Euro Series . Hankook and Real Madrid signed a sponsorship deal for three seasons in 2016 and extended the contract from 2020 to 2023.
