Hanns Kreisel (born July 16, 1931 in Leipzig ; † January 18, 2017 in Wolgast ) was a German mycologist and professor emeritus. His botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is " Kreisel ".

Life

Hanns Kreisel was a graduate of the Schola Thomana in Leipzig. From 1951 he began studying biology and geology in Greifswald . He was a student of Werner Rothmaler , Heinrich Boriss , Robert Bauch , A. Kurt Beyer , and Hans Werli . From 1956 he was a qualified biologist, from 1960 Dr. rer. nat., Habilitation followed in 1966. 1968–1971 he was visiting professor at the University of La Habana in Cuba , 1977 associate professor for mycology in the department of general microbiology, 1992–1996 he held the chair for general and special botany at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University in Greifswald, the guest lectures followed in Vienna , Siena , Spain and Argentina .

His fields of work included the systematics of higher fungi and molds, ethnomycology, palaeomycology, geobotany, questions of applied mycology. He was the author, co-author or editor of a number of handbooks, textbooks and non-fiction books, some in Spanish. His work has included working with mycologists in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and South America. Since 2008 he has been involved in research into fungal damage on thatched roofs in northern Germany.

Kreisel was one of the specialists for the mushroom groups of the belly mushrooms as well as for subfossil fungi, from which he examined and processed, for example, test material from the excavation of the Ozeaneum Stralsund .

Kreisel has also been the editor of several international scientific journals.

  • In 1978 he was honored with the Carolus Clusius Medal in Hungary.
  • Since 2004 he has been an honorary member of the German Society for Mycology.
