Hannu Övermark

Hannu Övermark (born January 16, 1957 in Lappajärvi ) is a former Finnish wrestler .

Career

Hannu Övermark comes from a wrestling family. He was one of four brothers who indulged in this sport, of which his older brother Jarmo Övermark was the most successful. Hannu Övermark began wrestling in 1964 and has been a member of the Lappajärven Veikot wrestling club throughout his career . In 1970 he was the Finnish youth champion in his age group in the class up to 36 kg body weight. By 1975 he won four more Finnish championship titles in the youth and juniors.

From 1976 to 1985 Hannu Övermark competed regularly in the Finnish Senior Championships in both styles. He won a total of 13 medals. He was Finnish champion in 1980 in featherweight, 1981 in lightweight and 1985 in featherweight, each in the Greco-Roman style. Several times there were "brother encounters" with Kari Övermark.

On the international wrestling mat he reached the 4th place at the European Junior Championships in 1976 in Poznan and the 1977 Junior World Championships in Las Vegas in Greco-Roman style in featherweight.

In the seniors the 4th place at the 1982 World Cup in Katowice in Greco-Roman. Featherweight style behind Ryszard Swierad from Poland , Rafail Nasibulow from the Soviet Union and Panayot Kirow from Bulgaria , but his biggest success ahead of István Tóth from Hungary and Lars Malmkvist from Sweden .

Hannu Övermark works in the leisure industry in his Finnish homeland and is one of the best Finnish golf players .
