The Hans-Bredow-Straße was named after the high-frequency engineer Hans Bredow (1879-1959). He was chairman of the administrative board of the Reichs-Rundfunk-Gesellschaft (RRG) and is considered one of the founders of German ship and international radio traffic, German radio and German television broadcasting. In the 1930s to 1970s, an extensive residential area was built in the east of the Osterholzer Feldmark between Ehlersdamm and Osterholzer Fleet.

Around 1960, to the east of this residential area for Radio Bremen, the television studio and operations buildings were built on the street. The transmitter moved to new buildings in Bremen-Mitte and since the beginning of September 2007 operations ended here; the buildings were demolished. An industrial park also developed here. Other settlements included a logistics center and Philips' development and manufacturing company . Today (2019) there is a hardware store there.

From the 1990s, a shopping and leisure area was created, including the Weserpark shopping center with around 120,000 m² of total space and 66,000 m² of rental space. The shopping center became one of the largest in northern Germany. In addition, the Aquadrom wellness center was built , which has been called the Oasis in Weserpark since 1997 and expanded in 2014. In 1999 the Cinestar Kristall-Palast cinema had its first screenings. At the end of October 2014, the Weserpark, enlarged by 12,500 m², opened an extension. Further shopping and supply centers have settled in the neighborhood.

traffic

The new tram line 1 ran from 1967 between Arsterdamm and Blockdiek . It was extended in 1968 to the Osterholz terminal at the Schweizer Eck in Ellenerbrok-Schevemoor and in 2012/13 via Tenever to Mahndorf .
Since then, the Bremen tram has been using line 1 (Huchting - S Mahndorf station).
