In 1951 he received his doctorate in law with a thesis on participation in public service.

During his studies, Albrecht became close friends with Jürgen Ponto .

He was chairman of the German Association for International Maritime Law, board member of the German Nautical Association and chairman of the Maritime Committee of the International Bar Association and member of numerous advisory boards.

In 2000 he was honored on his 80th birthday: the University of Hamburg awarded him the University Medal for his services to the reconstruction of the university in the post-war period.
