Hans-Jürgen Luczak

Hans-Jürgen Luczak (born November 28, 1943 in Hugoldsdorf , † April 18, 2008 in Rostock ) was a German wrestler . He won a bronze medal in featherweight freestyle wrestling at the 1968 European Championships .

Career

Hans-Jürgen Luczak grew up in Vogtland and learned the job of a pit electrician in Neuoelsnitz. At the same time he started wrestling as a teenager at the BSG activist Oelsnitz . He later moved to the Eichenkranz Lugau Ring and Stemming Club . Because of his success, he was then delegated to ASK Vorwärts Rostock . His trainers in those years were Hein Weinhold, Horst Unger and Erich Penkert.

The first major success of Hans-Jürgen Luczak, who concentrated on free style, was 3rd place in the 1965 GDR featherweight championship. In 1967 he reached second place in the GDR featherweight championship behind Helmut Jirmann from Leipzig, and in 1968 and 1969 he was GDR champion. 1968 in featherweight ahead of Helmut Jirmann and in 1969 in lightweight ahead of Christian Luschnig from Jena .

At the international level, he proved himself at the 1967 World Cup in New Delhi . In featherweight he reached an excellent fourth place there. He was even more successful at the 1968 European Championships in Skopje , where he won featherweight over Werner Hettich from the Federal Republic of Germany , Jorma Liimatainen from Finland and József Rusznyák from Hungary, tied against Petre Coman from Romania and only lost against Enju Todorow from Bulgaria . He reached 3rd place and won a bronze medal .

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , however, he had no luck, because he lost to Vehbi Akdağ from Turkey and Shamsedin Seyedabashi from Iran and ended up in 14th place.

In 1969 Hans-Jürgen Luczak achieved an honorable fifth place with three victories at the European lightweight championship in Sofia . He took the same place at the 1970 European Championships in Berlin , where he started again in the lightweight. He also managed a victory over the strong Soviet athlete Nodar Hohashvili .

Hans-Jürgen Luczak did not come to any further appearances at international championships. He began studying sports at the DHfK in Leipzig , which he completed as a certified sports teacher. After that he was a sports teacher in Rostock until his retirement. He wrestled for several years at SV Warnemünde .
