Hans-Joachim Hannemann (zoologist)

Hans-Joachim Hannemann (born March 28, 1925 in Potsdam , † July 22, 2010 in Berlin ) was a German zoologist .

Life

After his military service in World War II and subsequent imprisonment in 1947, Hans-Joachim Hannemann began studying biology at Humboldt University in Berlin . After graduating in 1951, Alfred Kaestner supervised his dissertation on flat-body moths . In 1958, Hannemann took over the management of the butterfly department from Erich Martin Hering , which he successfully looked after until his retirement in 1990. In 1962 Hannemann completed his habilitation with a monograph on the common moth (Pyraloidea). In 1964 he was appointed lecturer and in 1982 associate professor. From 1963 Hannemann was deputy director and from 1973 director of the Zoological Museum .

Hans-Joachim Hannemann studied the taxonomy, morphology and functional anatomy of butterflies, including the head muscles of primeval moths of the Micropterix genus with chewing mouthparts and the sound-producing organs of owl butterflies from Madagascar . As a specialist in butterflies, he worked on the lepidoptera of the Urania animal kingdom . He was also co-editor of the animal world of Germany (founded by Friedrich Dahl ) and the excursion fauna of Germany (founded by Erwin Stresemann ).

Hans-Joachim Hannemann died after a long illness at the age of 85 at home in Berlin. He left his wife Eva and two sons.

Honors

The German Society for General and Applied Entomology honored Hans-Joachim Hannemann in 1993 with the award of the Meigen Medal. In addition, Hannemann was an honorary member of the Spanish Sociedad Hispano-Luso-Americana de Lepidopterologica .
