Hans-Joachim Heusing

Hans-Joachim Heusing (born August 24, 1928 in Ruhla ; died February 1, 2020 ) was a German climber , mountaineer , local researcher and preservationist .

Life

Heusing was the son of a lumberjack from the Thuringian Forest and began to be interested in sports at an early age, swimming in summer and skiing and ski jumping in winter. After attending school, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht at the age of 15 and took part in World War II as a soldier . In the post-war years he first worked as a lumberjack, then as a toolmaker. He attended engineering school and from 1952 the Dresden Technical University .

In his free time in Dresden he was very active as a climber and mountaineer in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains . He joined the DWBV section of SG Dynamo Dresden , which was converted into an independent association in 1958 as the German Hikers and Mountaineers Association. He achieved several first ascent, such as the ascent of the north tower valley side of the Pfaffenstein in 1956 . He became close friends with the GDR's first mountaineering master , Hans-Joachim Scholz . In the autumn of 1958, Hans-Joachim Heusing fell on the Papststein in Saxon Switzerland while climbing a difficult path, and in December he climbed again on the Papststein with his leg in plaster. His motto was "Life means fighting!"

In memory of Wilhelm Dieckmann , who was murdered in 1934 , Hans-Joachim Heusing suggested an annual memorial run, which was carried out over fifty times from 1958 onwards. After returning to Thuringia after completing his studies , he became one of the co-organizers of the GutsMuths-Rennsteiglauf . Professionally, he worked for many years at the Office for Standardization, Metrology and Goods Testing .

In 1976 Heusing formed a district technical committee of the DWBO in the Schmalkalden district with three sections , which was soon followed by 17 further sections. As a passionate singer, he was one of the co-founders of the Bergfreunde sports choir in the Suhl district in 1983 . In the Suhl district he also headed the field monuments working group for many years . In 1990 he belonged to the group of people who founded the history association in Schmalkalden as a member of the Association for Hessian History and Regional Studies e. V. revived and filled with life. In 1996 he published in the Schmalkalder history sheets about boundary stones and the efforts to protect them over time .
