Hans-Werner Fischer-Elfert

Hans-Werner Fischer-Elfert (born September 2, 1954 in Hage ) is a German Egyptologist .

Fischer-Elfert studied Egyptology , Hittitology and ethnology at the universities of Hamburg and Tübingen between 1976 and 1982 . In 1985 he received his doctorate in Hamburg . From 1986 to 1987 he was a lecturer at the University of Heidelberg and then until 1989 research assistant at the "Directory of Oriental Manuscripts in Germany". From 1989 to 1995 he was a research assistant at the University of Würzburg , where he completed his habilitation in 1994 . In 1996 he went to the École pratique des hautes études of the Sorbonne in Paris as Maître de conférences . In 1997 he was a deputy professor at the University of Leipzig for six months and then until 1998 a research grant from the German Research Foundation . 1998–99 he was appointed professor at the University of Heidelberg until he became a full professor at the Egyptological Institute of the University of Leipzig in October 1999 . As such, he is also the managing director of the Egyptian Museum at Leipzig University . He interrupted his work there in the winter semester 2003/04 and 2009/10 for a visiting professorship at the Department of Near Eastern Languages ​​and Civilizations at Yale University in New Haven (Connecticut) .

Fischer-Elfert is co-editor of the magazine for Egyptian language and antiquity (ZÄS) . His main research interests are ancient Egyptian literature , magic and medicine.

On February 12, 2010, Fischer-Elfert was elected a full member of the philological-historical class of the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig.

Hans-Werner Fischer-Elfert is the brother of the artist and documentary filmmaker Ralf-Peter Post .
