Hans Barthelmess

Hans Barthelmess (born December 5, 1887 in Erlangen , † July 18, 1916 near Verdun ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Hans Barthelmess was trained as a drawing teacher at the Nuremberg Art School until 1906 .

He studied from October 27, 1906 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Peter Halm and Adolf Schinnerer . Barthelmess continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart with Christian Landenberger . Stays abroad: 1911 in Paris, 1913 in Italy. From 1912 Hans Barthelmess studied nude painting with Franz von Stuck in Munich .

Hans Barthelmess was a member of the German Association of Artists and the Munich Art Association .

During the First World War , Hans Barthelmess was called to military service and died on July 18, 1916 in the Battle of Verdun at the age of 29.

In 1948 a street in Alt-Erlangen was named after Hans Barthelmess. In 2017 the Erlangen City Museum dedicated an exhibition to him.
