Hans Christoph von Ebeleben (born June 23, 1578 in Wartenburg , † November 7, 1651 in Dresden ) was a German lawyer and administrative officer.

Life

Ebeleben was the son of the electoral district administrator Apel von Ebeleben and his wife Agnesa von Werthern. On December 31, 1589, Ebeleben was enrolled in law at the University of Wittenberg . There he was supervised and supported by the lawyer Valentin Wilhelm Forster . In 1595 he moved to the University of Leipzig for two years and returned to Wittenberg and Forster in 1597 . Here he successfully completed his studies in 1602.

After completing his studies, Ebeleben turned down an appeal to the court court and to the court in Dresden . He returned to Wartenburg and managed the family property. At the age of 39, Ebeleben married Agnesa von Dohrstadt on November 11, 1617. In 1635, Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony entrusted him with the administrative authorities of Wittenberg , Gommern , Belzig and Elbenau . In the same year he was also appointed assessor in Wittenberg. In 1638 he was promoted to court judge.

In the years 1644 to 1647, Ebeleben tried to settle the dispute between Prince Johann von Anhalt-Zerbst and his uncle, Prince August von Anhalt-Plötzkau, as a mediator from the Electoral Saxony . In 1645 Ebeleben was accepted into the Fruit-Bringing Society by Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt-Köthen . He was given the company name The Righteous and as the motto for the most delicious anointing . The Indian nard root ( Nardostachys jamatanansi L. ) was given to him as an emblem . In the Koethener society book the entry Ebelebens can be found under the number 435. There is also the rhyme law recorded, which he had written on the occasion of his admission:

The man in Nard is of noble great strength,
A real balm oil is made from it:
The lord of the Lord was also anointed with this juice,
As if to believe and love Mary led us on this:
The upright man is now my name: A heartfelt heart
What is right and upright never goes from it,
Yes, also gives his next one the balm deliciously
As an anointing, if God truly makes it in love.

At the age of 73, Hans Christoph von Ebeleben died on November 7, 1651 in Dresden. With him the sex of this line died out in the male line. The manor of Wartenburg fell to the von Witzleben brothers, who were related to him.
