Hans Fraungruber

Hans Fraungruber (born January 26, 1863 in Obersdorf , Styria , † August 7, 1933 in Maria Enzersdorf ) was an Austrian writer .

Life

Hans Fraungruber grew up with his grandmother in the Styrian Salzkammergut before he came to his parents in St. Pölten at the age of six . Here the father worked as a postmaster. Fraungruber attended grammar school in Seitenstetten . Then he went to the teacher training institute in Salzburg and St. Pölten. In 1881 he was employed as a teacher in Christofen near Neulengbach before he worked in Vienna from 1884 until his retirement . He initially taught at the Stumpergasse elementary school in Vienna- Mariahilf , and from 1909 to 1917 at the elementary school Gumpendorfer Strasse 4, also in Mariahilf. Most recently he was director there.

Hans Fraungruber married Maria von Ittersheim in 1895. He lived at Fillgradergasse 5 in Vienna-Mariahilf. During the holidays he mostly stayed in Bad Mitterndorf and remained connected to the Salzkammergut throughout his life.

In 1917 Fraungruber took over the editing of the magazine Das deutsche Volkslied and after the First World War was a member of the reading book committee as an official of the Ministry of Education. He was the editor of Gerlach's youth library .

Fraungruber died after severe suffering in the Villa Wällishof in the south of Vienna. He was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery (33A-1-32) and received an honorary grave there .

Hans Fraungruber was a Styrian dialect poet who wrote popular poems and cheerful short stories based on the example of Peter Rosegger . He also worked as a folk song researcher. Some of his poems have been set to music. His work in the field of books for children and young people was significant. Here he published numerous books for the youth, worked on school books and was effective in promoting the valuable youth book.

Honors

Fraungruber received the Bauernfeld Prize in 1917 . In Obersdorf there is a memorial stone next to his birthplace no.29. His friend Sebastian Kasperer set up a Fraungruber-Stüberl in his house in Mitterndorf in 1931, in which numerous memorabilia are kept and a portrait relief of the poet is located. There is also a memorial plaque at the Kurhaus in Bad Aussee . In 1935 Fraungruber received, in addition to his already mentioned grave of honor, a memorial plaque at the elementary school Gumpendorfer Straße 4, where he had worked, which is decorated with a portrait relief by J. Podeprel. In 1937 Fraungrubergasse in Vienna- Meidling was named after the writer.
