Hans G. Danielmeyer

Hans Günter Danielmeyer (born March 5, 1936 in Nuremberg ) is a German physicist who specializes in applied physics (laser and solid-state physics).

Danielmeyer received his doctorate from the University of Stuttgart in 1965 . From 1966 to 1971 he was a Post-Doc at Bell Laboratories in Holmdel , New Jersey , where he worked on the development of the neodymium YAG laser . From 1971 to 1974 he was at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart . In 1974 he was at the Lincoln Laboratory of MIT and the University of Campinas in Brazil . In 1975 he became professor for experimental solid-state physics at the Institute for Applied Physics at the University of Hamburg , where he set up the solid-state laser group, which he headed until 1987. From its foundation in 1978 to 1986 he was President of the TU Hamburg . From 1980 to 1986 he also managed the Hamburg technology park HIT. From 1987 to 1996 he was a member of the Board of Management for Research and Development at Siemens AG in Munich, succeeding Karl Heinz Beckurts . Since 2004 he has been visiting professor at the University of Lübeck . He is a member of the board of trustees at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research .

In addition to solid-state lasers, he also deals with economics (economics and business administration), having obtained an MBA from Rutgers University in 1971 . In 1998 he was visiting professor for macroeconomics at the University of Kiel .

From 1994 to 1996 he was President of the German Physical Society . Among other things, he was a consultant for the Chinese, German, Japanese and Swiss governments, for the EU Commission, at the Lebedew Institute in Moscow and Vice President of the Japanese-German Center in Berlin .

He is an honorary doctorate from the University of Strasbourg (1993). From 1987 to 1996 he was honorary professor at the University of Munich and from 1990 to 1996 at Shandong University in China. He is a member of the European Academy of Sciences .
