Hans Herschel (born May 14, 1875 in Opole ; † December 4, 1930 in Breslau ) was a German politician (center).

Live and act

Herschel was born as the son of a master shoemaker and city councilor in Opole. He attended elementary school and high school in his hometown. From 1894 to 1897 Herschel studied law in Freiburg im Üechtland , Halle an der Saale and Breslau . In between he stayed several times in France and England. From 1897 to 1902 Herschel was a trainee lawyer in Opole and Breslau. He passed the first state examination in law in 1897, the second followed in 1901. He later received his doctorate. jur. Then he was assessor in Hirschberg and Schweidnitz . In 1903 he established himself as a lawyer in Breslau. From 1905 he worked at the city's higher regional court and in 1908 became a member of the city council, of which he was a member until 1924. He was also the chairman of the city's Catholic People's Committee.

In 1917 Herschel was deputy head of the city council in the Wroclaw city council. In 1918 he became a member of the Provincial Parliament . In January 1919, Herschel was elected to the Weimar National Assembly as the center's candidate for constituency 10 (Opole) . He then belonged to the Reichstag until November 1922 . In the Reichstag, Herschel was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and he was also a spokesman for his party for a short time. In addition, Herschel was a member of the Council for Upper Silesia from 1920 to 1923 .

From 1924, Herschel was mayor of Breslau. Herschel was a member of the Catholic student associations KDStV Teutonia Friborg and KDStV Winfridia (Breslau) Münster .
