Hans Jauslin (born October 18, 1909 in Muttenz , † July 18, 1958 in Zurich ) was a Swiss artist .

Life

Jauslin learned to paint decorations and scripts. After his apprenticeship, he attended the trade school in Basel and was taught by Georg Albrecht Meyer (1875–1952) and Arnold Fiechter . In 1935 he married Gertrud Hähnle from Winistorf SO and started working as an artist. From 1951 Jauslin had his studio next to the fortified church of St. Arbogast .

In Solothurn, Jauslin was able to create a sgraffito mural for the council chamber. It was dedicated seven weeks before his death. Further works are murals in the community center in Muttenz, in the police building in Binningen and in the secondary schools in Allschwil, Reigoldswil, in the schools in Breitenbach, Küttighofen and in the canton school in Solothurn. Jauslin was friends with Werner Miller .

In the spring of 1950, an exhibition was planned in Ebenrain Castle for Jauslin's 50th birthday . After the artist's unexpected demise, it became a memorial exhibition.

Jauslin painted "realistic and simple" portraits, still lifes and landscapes (especially of the Bucheggberg ) and devoted himself to building art (e.g. sgraffiti ). He was influenced by Piero della Francesca , Frank Buchser and Cuno Amiet .

Peter Bichsel wrote in 2003: "My own picture of Jauslin signals meekness and idyll - painted by a defiant [...] I feel as if I had never actually seen a landscape."
