Hans Moser (born June 13, 1926 in Süßen , Württemberg ; † November 15, 2008 in Friedrichshafen , Lake Constance district ) was a German animal breeding officer and university lecturer.

Live and act

After passing the matriculation examination at the Oberschule Geislingen as well as agricultural practice on various training companies and the parents' farm, Moser studied agricultural sciences at the Agricultural University (LH) in Hohenheim from autumn 1948 and graduated there in 1951 with the diploma examination.

This was followed by work as an assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Animal Breeding and Animal Nutrition in Mariensee as well as in Hohenheim and for animal breeding associations for a dissertation on the relationship between heifers and mean lifetime production in the Höhenfleckvieh . From 1953 he went through the preparation for the higher agricultural service in Baden-Württemberg and passed the final state examination in autumn 1955.

Moser then worked as an agricultural assessor at the state teaching and research institute for animal husbandry in Aulendorf , Ravensburg district, until 1962 . The doctorate to Dr. agr. at the LH Hohenheim was completed in 1957.

In 1962, Hans Moser switched to the then Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Viticulture and Forests in Stuttgart as a consultant for large animal breeding. As early as 1969 he was appointed Head of the Division for Animal Breeding and Production as Government Agriculture Director; In 1970 he was appointed Ministerial Councilor. In 1971, Moser was given a teaching position for "Status and Development Trends in Animal Breeding Practice" at the Institute for Animal Breeding and Animal Husbandry at the University of Hohenheim and was appointed honorary professor there in 1980.

In addition to managing the animal breeding department, he was appointed deputy head of the agriculture department in the Ministry of Rural Areas in 1988. In 1990, Hans Moser retired from active service in the agricultural administration in Baden-Württemberg as Head of the Ministerial Council. As a senior advisor, he then made his extensive professional experience in the field of animal breeding and animal breeding administration, including animal breeding law, available for three years when setting up the new administration and animal breeding associations in the Free State of Saxony.

The implementation of the findings of population genetics was initially a special professional focus for Hans Moser, where he used the committee for breeding value estimation of the Working Group of German Cattle Breeders (ADR) to exert his influence on the first formulation of recommendations on the breeding value estimation of bulls. Within Baden-Württemberg, Hans Moser was heavily involved in the expansion of performance tests in animal breeding, in particular in the establishment of test stations for the meat performance test of bulls as well as in the development of the state teaching and research institutes for animal husbandry and the main and state stud in Marbach.

The integration of biotechnology insemination into the breeding programs and the development of an independent hybrid breeding program for pigs in Baden-Württemberg are examples of the successful work of Hans Moser; Moser in Baden-Württemberg also introduced the embryo transfer in cattle in cooperation with the breeding associations. As a result of the administrative reform in Baden-Württemberg, the animal breeding administration was reorganized from 1972; Likewise, from 1972 to 1978 the animal breeding associations for horses, cattle, pigs, sheep and goats were combined into larger units. At the level of the Federal Republic of Germany, Hans Moser played a key role in the revision of the Animal Breeding Act in 1976 and its amendment in 1998.

Hans Moser was buried in his place of birth.
