Hans Oleak received his doctorate in 1963 at the University of Jena ( gas dynamic processes in the fireball stage of the meteors , doctorate A), followed in 1973 by his doctorate B at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR with the thesis Treder's theory of gravity from the point of view of observational cosmology . In 1978 he received the license to teach astronomy from the University of Jena and applied for the chair without success. After initially working in the research of meteors , he was head of the extragalactic research department at the Potsdam Central Institute for Astrophysics from 1969 to 1990 .
