Hans Richard Schittny (born October 26, 1924 in Glatz ; † January 4, 2009 in Gütersloh ) was a German pharmacist and writer.

Life

education

During the Second World War , Schittny was drafted into the air force and trained as a navigator . He then joined the infantry and was taken prisoner of war in March 1945 . During his imprisonment he worked in a coal mine until he escaped a year later. In Osnabrück he found a job as an interpreter for English, then learned the pharmacy trade and then studied pharmacy in Münster .

Pharmacist career

He finished his studies and received a doctoral position with Professor Dr. Schratz. He had to refuse this, however, because his father Johannes Schittny died on December 25, 1952 and he wanted to continue the Mohren pharmacy, which his father had founded in 1950. On April 1, 1955, he finally took over the pharmacy in Gütersloh, which was in a difficult financial situation at the time. At the same time he owned the production facility for the so-called Jerusalem balm , the recipe for which his grandfather had acquired in 1892. Schittny concluded supply contracts with the Gütersloh Municipal Clinic and the Elisabeth Hospital, which lasted a total of 25 years. In addition to his job as a pharmacist, he took on academic teaching positions for chemistry and drug theory at the Evangelisch Stiftisches Gymnasium and two nursing schools in Gütersloh. For 18 years he was also a trusted pharmacist in the Gütersloh district for the Westphalia-Lippe Chamber of Pharmacists . He was also president of the Rotary Club in Gütersloh, a member of the St. Pankratius church council and the board of trustees of the Elisabeth Hospital. He also founded the association “Country Committee Czech Republic – Slovakia – Germany” of Rotary International . In 1995 he leased the Mohren pharmacy and took care of his writing activities.

Writing

In 1984 Schittny began to write. He first researched the origins of his family and published the work Odersky, the story of a Moravian family in the German Family Archive. This was followed in 1988 by a non-fiction book on the Mohren Pharmacy in Glatz with the title 600 years of Mohren Pharmacy Glatz - self-published historical story and in 1993 a monograph on the Jerusalemer Balsam ( The History of the Jerusalemer Balsam ). After leasing his pharmacy, he devoted himself to pharmaceutical, historical and alchemical studies. In 2005, Encounter with the Philosopher's Stone - A Picture Journey through Alchemy and with legends, fairy tales and historical facts in the mirror of the war emergency money from 1917 to 1923, a treatise on emergency money was published . Born with Dishonest - The Executioner of Prague , a historical novel about his great-great-great-grandfather was published in 2007. In 2007, as editor, he also brought out the compilation The long way from Socrates to Einstein as a multimedia package. An autobiography called Memories has remained unpublished at his request.

On January 4th, 2009, Hans Richard Schittny died at the age of 84 in Gütersloh.
