Michael Winsauer (born August 6, 1982 in St. Johann in Tirol ) is a former Austrian football player . Most recently he was under contract with FC Wohlen in the second highest Swiss soccer league .

Club career

Winsauer began his career with his hometown club FC Reith near Kitzbühel. When the family moved to St. Johann in Tirol in 1992, he switched to the youth of SK St. Johann. At St. Johann he developed into a defensive talent over the years and was regularly called up for regional and Tyrolean national teams. In 1998 he was accepted into the talent factory BNZ Tirol. After graduating from school, he signed his first professional contract for the 2001/02 season with the then Austrian second division club SV Wörgl .

First professional station in Wörgl

In Wörgl he then developed into an uncompromising central defender. After his first half as a professional, he was able to celebrate his nomination for the Young Star Team of the autumn season. There followed 3 seasons in the relegation battle, in each of which one could reach the 8th place in the table, which was still saving. In the 2004/05 season , however, with the withdrawal of the license by the Bundesliga and the associated penalty transfer to the third-class Regionalliga West, the sporting and financial meltdown for club and players followed. When they were then relegated to the bottom of the table in a purely sporting manner, they decided against playing in the regional league and instead voluntarily switched to the fourth-class regional league.

Winsauer, meanwhile promoted to the youth national team of Austria, then moved within the league to promoted SC Schwanenstadt . In Schwanenstadt he played for the first time under coach Andreas Heraf , who should bring him to a club two more times in a row. Winsauer then started strong in Schwanenstadt before he had to pause more and more often due to injury. He played a total of 13 games with 1 goal scoring for Schwanenstadt before moving on to FC Lustenau 07 .

In Lustenau, too, his bad luck with injuries remained loyal to him, which meant that he only made 11 appearances this season with one goal.

Just before the end of my career early

After Winsauer had played with pain for a long time, but no one found the reason for it, he consulted an Innsbruck specialist who diagnosed a fatigue fracture in the thigh neck. The diagnosis came just in time to bypass an artificial hip that would have meant the end of his career. After a successful operation, he was able to continue his career.

Return to Heraf

After recovering from convalescence, he was brought back to Schwanenstadt by Andreas Heraf for the 2007/08 season. Completely pain-free, he then advanced to become an unrestricted regular player in the defense and made 19 season appearances with 2 goals by the winter. After the excellent 2nd place in the 2006/07 season, the team fell short of expectations, whereupon Heraf surprisingly left the club in November 2007 for SC-ESV Parndorf .

During the winter transition period of the same season, Winsauer moved again to Heraf in Parndorf. When Parndorf, in acute danger of relegation, slipped to the penultimate place in the table in March 2008, Heraf was dismissed and replaced by Johann Dihanich . As a result, Winsauer fought with the team to stay up until the last day of the match, but was denied after a 1: 2 home defeat in a direct relegation duel against DSV Leoben .

For the 2008/09 season Winsauer then moved to promoted 1. FC Vöcklabruck . A strong start to the season with second place in the table after 5 rounds, the battle for relegation followed for the rest of the season. When you had to hibernate in the last place in the table, coach Andrzej Lesiak was replaced by Dejan Stanković , but this also did not lead to any improvement. At the end of the season they rose without a sound as the bottom of the table from the league. The descent was followed by the complete dissolution of the club, whereby Winsauer was again without a club.

In the last few years it had earned a reputation as an "institution of the first division " that still finds a place with a club every year, but no new offer followed. Furthermore, he had to cope with 3 relegations in the last 5 years, after which he wanted to try a fresh start.

First Austrian in NZ

He then contacted an Australian players' agent who arranged the move to New Zealand to Team Wellington . His move made him the first Austrian legionnaire in New Zealand, which brought him a lot of media interest plus a full-page article in the daily newspaper "Kurier" . Winsauer played for Wellington in the New Zealand Football Championship .
