Hans Sachs (doctor)
Hans Sachs (born June 6, 1877 in Kattowitz , † March 25, 1945 in Dublin ) was a German physician and serologist .
Life
Hans Sachs was the son of the businessman Elias Sachs in Katowice and his wife Flora Hausdorff . He went to the grammar schools of Katowice and Breslau, where he passed the final exam at the Johannesgymnasium in 1895 .
Sachs studied from 1895 at the universities of Freiburg , Breslau and Berlin , he received his doctorate after his dissertation on the behavior of laevulosis in metabolism in 1900 at the University of Leipzig . From 1905 he researched and worked at the University of Frankfurt am Main . In 1907 he became a professor there , and from 1914 also an honorary professor at the University of Frankfurt / Main. In 1920 he went to Heidelberg as professor of the Institute for Immunity and Serum Research and Director of the Scientific Department of the Institute for Experimental Cancer Research . In 1932 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina Science Academy .
In 1935 he was dismissed from the institute and the university as a Jew . Hans Sachs had to flee Germany in 1938, emigrated to Oxford and later to Dublin, where he died in 1945.
In 1905 he married Adelheid Sophie Charlotte Grelling (1884–1978), a daughter of Richard Grelling (1853–1929) and Margarethe Anna Simon (1862–1934). The couple had a son and a daughter. The mathematician Kurt Grelling (1886–1942) was his brother-in-law.
Honors
A street in Katowice was named after him ( Sachsstrasse , today's Ulica Jana Kochanowskiego).
