Hans Schlemmer (pedagogue)

Hans Schlemmer (born March 1, 1885 ; † February 1958 ) was a German teacher, author, religious educator and university teacher .

Life

Before and after the First World War , Schlemmer was a teacher in various Berlin schools. Later he was senior director of studies for religion in Frankfurt (Oder) and part-time lecturer for education and psychology. In the 1920s he published a number of important educational monographs .

In his more than 30 writings he represented a liberal neo-Kantian understanding of religion and was particularly influenced by Friedrich Schleiermacher and Paul Natorp .

After the end of the Second World War , Schlemmer was government director responsible for new teacher training in the state of Brandenburg from 1946 to 1948, after which he taught as a professor of education at the Humboldt University in Berlin and at the Potsdam University of Education . In 1957 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze. For many years he was chairman of the district peace council in Potsdam.
