Hans Sieg (born May 24, 1930 in Giesen , Oletzko district ) was major general of the National People's Army (NVA) of the German Democratic Republic .

Life

After nine years of elementary school, the son of a miner did an apprenticeship as a baker from 1945 to 1949, which he completed as a journeyman. On September 1, 1949, he joined the German People's Police (DVP) as a trainee , where he soon became head of the internal service in the VP offices in Großenhain and Frankenberg . From 1952 to 1954 he was an assistant to the chief of staff and company commander of the Prenzlau branch of the barracked people's police (KVP) . In 1953 he became a member of the SED . In 1954/55 he was in command of a department in the Prenzlau KVP office . After a four-year course at the Military Academy of the USSR, he became the commander of the 14th tank regiment " Karol Świerczewski " in Spremberg in 1960 .

In 1965 he was appointed Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the 7th Panzer Division in Dresden . After studying for two years at the General Staff Academy of the USSR , which he graduated in 1970 as a graduate military scientist, he became 1st Deputy Commander of the 7th Armored Division. On November 9, 1971, Major General Werner Winter was succeeded by his appointment as commander of the 7th Panzer Division. As such, he was appointed major general on March 1, 1973, the 17th day the NVA was founded. Subsequently, on October 31, 1976, he was appointed Deputy Chief and Chief of Training for Military District III in Leipzig . Most recently, from 1980 until his release on October 31, 1981, he was commander of the Land Forces Section at the Friedrich Engels Military Academy in Dresden.

As one of the few generals in the NVA, he was downgraded on September 24, 1985 from the rank of Major General of the Reserve to Lieutenant Colonel of the Reserve.
