Hans Siegert (born January 17, 1868 in Hammerunterwiesenthal , † June 6, 1941 in Leipzig ) was a German pedagogue and local poet and folklorist from the Ore Mountains .

Life

Siegert was born in 1868 in the Hammerunterwiesenthal school in the Upper Ore Mountains . In 1871 his father was transferred to Niska, where he died a year later. Hans Siegert's mother therefore moved to live with her parents, the foresters' people Teumer , in the forester's house in the highest Saxon village of Tellerhäuser in the Ore Mountains.

From 1882 to 1888 Siegert attended the teachers' college in Annaberg and after completing his training received a job as an assistant teacher in neighboring Buchholz . In 1891 he was called to Leipzig as a teacher, where he later also worked as headmaster. He retired in 1931.

In the course of his life Siegert wrote numerous poems, stories, sagas, songs, plays and a novel. He became known in particular through his folklore work to promote the Ore Mountains dialect and through his collaboration on the calendar for the Ore Mountains and the rest of Saxony in the 1930s.

From 1914 to 1929 Siegert was chairman of the Leipzig branch of the Erzgebirgsverein . From 1918 he was a member of the board of directors of the Erzgebirgsverein, and from 1925 he was an honorary member of the association.

Hans Siegert was married to Margarete, nee Krschenek.
