Hans Johannes Eberhard Burghard von Lüpke (born December 28, 1866 in Müden (Aller) , † January 1, 1934 in Göttingen ) was a German, liberal theologian of Lutheran character and journalist and a leader in the German village church movement .

Life

Lüpke grew up in Hermannsburg and Bethel . He studied theology in Tübingen , Erlangen and Göttingen . When the Hanoverian church authorities dismissed him because of a newspaper feud, he went to Thuringia and in 1893 became assistant preacher in Jena . In 1894 he was pastor in Clodra , 1901 in Thalbürgel , 1911 senior pastor and superintendent in Auma , 1917 pastor in Windischleuba , 1919 in Isenhagen / Hanover . In 1925 he retired to devote himself entirely to journalism and moved to Göttingen. In 1933 he received a teaching post from the local theological faculty for "Questions of the German Protestant People's Church".

Act

Lüpke's main merit was the publication of the magazine "Die Dorfkirche" (since 1907), "Illustrated monthly for the care of religious life in local and popular forms". The writer Heinrich Sohnrey had won him over for it. The German village church movement , which gave Lüpke a profile and impetus, came about through regional gatherings of readers . The theological faculty of the University of Marburg awarded him an honorary doctorate on October 31, 1917. He was uncritical about National Socialism.
