action

Laura informs her sister Jayne about the poor health of their father Joe. The old man suffering from senile dementia needs constant care. So far, Laura has looked after him. But she thinks it is time for her sister to take over. However, Jayne delays the journey. She is more concerned with her own life. Her husband Jackson is the son of a late famous painter and the childless couple thrive on his legacy. Even after his father's death, Jackson suffers from his height, which he will never reach. Jayne, on the other hand, repeatedly flees into day and night dreams, which determine her life more than reality. When Jayne then returns to her parents' house, she is confronted with the past of the family and the very down-to-earth sister who would rather see their father in a nursing home. Although Jayne is not up to the care of the father at all, she makes the suggestion to take the father in with her in California . Joe doesn't want to know anything about it. He continues to play his blues songs on the guitar and has an equally crazy lover, Shelly, who also lives in the house. Shelly poses as a nurse but is a drug addict and needs the old man's money. Jayne finally manages to drive the woman out of the house. When Laura and Joe end up in the hospital after a car accident caused by Jayne, Jayne dissolves the father's household. Joe eventually ends up in a nursing home. But Jayne's husband Jackson also ends up in a psychiatric clinic.

Reviews

Happy Tears has weird moments, and for a while it's fun watching Demi Moore and Parker Posey play, their struggles and reconciliations. But subtlety is not the thing of director Lichtenstein, he sends his characters through comedy-like, clumsy standard situations. "

"In principle, Lichtenstein has re- filmed the" Siblings Savage "as shrill clothes, twisting them into brightly colored consumer goods in the spirit of his father Roy. A remnant of sadness and despair can be guessed under the - very strange - surface, but overall the result is too sweet. "

Awards

The film took part in the Berlinale 2009 , where it was represented in the competition for the Golden Bear , but received no awards. The Golden Bear went to La teta asustada .
