Harald Grötz (born July 15, 1978 in Vienna ) is an Austrian chess player .

Life

In 1996 he passed the high school diploma in Stockerau . He then studied physics and mathematics at the Technical University of Vienna until 2001 . Since September 2003 he has been teaching physics and mathematics at the Archbishop's High School in Hollabrunn .

He started playing chess in 1988 and in 1995 and 1997 he took 1st place at the Lower Austrian Youth Championships. In 1996 he took 2nd place at the Austrian Youth State Championships, in 1992 and 1995 3rd place. In 1996 he took part in the European Youth Championships in Rimavská Sobota (Slovakia), 1997 in Tallinn (Estonia) and 1998 in Yerevan (Armenia), and in 1998 in the Youth World Cup in Calicut (India). In 1997 the Austrian Chess Federation awarded him the title of "Austrian Master".

In 2002 he was part of the Austrian team at the Mitropacup in Leipzig . In the same year the world chess federation FIDE awarded him the FIDE master title.

In 2007 he was awarded the title of International Master , he fulfilled the required standards in August 2001 at the Finkenstein Open in Latschach am Faaker See , in March 2005 at the Caissa IM tournament in Kecskemét and in the 2005/06 season in the 2nd Austrian Bundesliga .

In August 2007 he won the International Schwarzacher Open. In 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2014 he won the Stockerau Chess Open. In 2013 and 2014 he won the Lower Austrian state championships. In 2017 he won the Salzkammergut Open in Bad Ischl .

He has been a member of SV Stockerau since 1988, a guest player at SK Aljechin Wieden since 1996 and played for SK Zwettl in the 1st Bundesliga in the 2012/13 season . In the Vienna company championship he was a player at SK Ministry of Commerce from 1998 to 2012, and has been a member of the Verbund / VHG-OMV syndicate since then. Since 2018 he has been playing for SG Mistelbach / Altlichtenwarth in the 2nd Bundesliga East.
