Latschach (formerly also Unterlatschach ; Slovenian Loče ) is a village , a locality and at the same time the cadastral community Latschach am Faaker See in the market town of Finkenstein am Faaker See in the Villach-Land district in Carinthia , Austria .

Geographical location

Latschach is located south of Faaker See at an altitude of approx. 650  m . The district capital Villach is ten kilometers northwest.

Infrastructure

Parish Church of St. Ulrich

The place has a cultural center where numerous events take place, especially in the tourist season. The local parish church of St. Ulrich with a remarkable high altar dates from 1749. Together with the cemetery surrounding it, it is under monument protection ( list entry ). The population lives mainly from summer and winter tourism, which is demonstrated by numerous private accommodations and several boarding houses.

Fox track

The fox trail is a newly designed and built hiking trail at Hotel Schönleiten in June 2017 .

Personalities

  • A famous athlete from Latschach is the professional cyclist Peter “Paco” Wrolich , who also organizes a hill climb in Latschach every year.
  • In 1936 the Nazi Hubert Klausner made his house in Latschach am Faaker See the headquarters of the illegal Gauleitung.
