Gerhard Eichhorn
Gerhard Eichhorn (born May 3, 1927 in Judenbach ; † December 15, 2015 ) was a German graphic artist , painter and draftsman .
Life
Gerhard Eichhorn attended the technical school for toy design in Sonneberg in 1942/43 and from 1945 to 1947, where he graduated as a ceramic modeler. From 1950 to 1955 he completed a degree in graphics at the University of Graphics and Book Art in Leipzig with Elisabeth Voigt , Heinz Eberhard Strüning and Heinz Wagner . From 1955 to 1958 he took an apprenticeship from Hans Mayer-Foreyt , at the same time leading the evening class of life drawing. From 1959 to 1964 he was a teacher at the Technical School for Applied Arts in Leipzig and from 1966 to 1992 lecturer at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig and head of the workshop for etchings and copperplate engraving. From 1968 he was also head of the painting and graphics department. From 1976 he was Vice-Rector and from 1978 Associate Professor of this institute. From 1964 to 1970 he was chairman of the Leipzig district organization of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR and from 1955 to 1990 a member of the same.
Work (excerpt)
In 1965 he designed the bar of the Hotel Deutschland in Leipzig with a wall painting. Influenced by Käthe Kollwitz , the graphic cycles were created: "From the struggle of the working class" and "The German peasant war".
