Harmeet Singh (born November 12, 1990 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian football player of Indian descent.

He was considered one of the greatest football talents in his country.

Club career

Singh began his career in the youth of the Oslo multisport club Furuset IF . In 2003 he moved to the traditional association Vålerenga , where he matured into one of Norway's greatest talents.

At the age of sixteen he was accepted into the extended professional squad of VIF in 2007, but was never used. In the fourth round of the 2008 season he made his debut under player-coach Martin Andresen in a 1-1 draw against Rosenborg BK in the Tippeligaen. Singh was in the starting line-up and was substituted in the 73rd minute when the score was 1-0 against the defensive routineer Ronny Johnsen . Andresen then built him up as his replacement in the more defensive-oriented midfield. By the end of the season, he was then used in eight other league games, but he did not complete any over the full 90 minutes of play. With the Norwegian Cup victory at the end of the season, he celebrated his first title win in the professional field. Singh came into play in the 86th minute when the final score was 4-1 for striker Morten Berre .

From the 2009 season he was already a regular player, mostly forming the central midfield duo in front of Andresen in his 4-3-3 game system together with Kristofer Hæstad or the Moroccan-born talent Mohammed Fellah .

After Andresen's resignation as an active player, his final breakthrough followed in 2010. He seamlessly took over the slightly more defensive position of his coach and soon presented himself as a thinker and leader in the game of VIF. In addition to five goals this season, he made twelve assists, from which top striker Moa Abdellaoue benefited in particular . The young team played for the league title again after years in midfield and was runner-up behind Rosenborg at the end of the season. As a result, he was one of three players nominated for "U-21 Player of the Year" in the Tippeligaen, only finishing second behind Markus Henriksen from Master RBK . In 2009 he was nominated in the same category, where Mads Stokkelien was preferred to him.

In February 2016, Singh signed a three-year contract with the Danish first division club Midtjylland . The contract was terminated five weeks later and Singh returned to Molde FK.

National team

Singh has played in every youth team in his country so far. A qualification for an international tournament has so far been denied him.

On June 5, 2009, at the age of 18, he made his debut for the Norwegian U-21 national team in a 1-1 away game against Estonia. He managed the goal to the final result. Since then, he has formed the core of the team together with captain Håvard Nordtveit , Tarik Elyounoussi , Marcus Pedersen , Jo Inge Berget and his two club colleagues Amin Nouri and Fellah.

In 2006 he was accepted by the Norwegian player legend Hallvar Thoresen in the sponsorship program "Fra talent til toppspiller" ("From talent to top player") initiated by the Olympiatoppen (Norwegian Olympic Committee for the Promotion of Top Sports ). In the pilot project at the time, the ten greatest Norwegian talents between the ages of fifteen and seventeen were to be introduced to professional football through additional individual support.

In addition to Singh, seven other players from the program made the leap to professionalism. The oldest player included, Tarik Elyounoussi , was already a senior international .

Singh is a practicing Sikh .

In 2010 he was listed by the Spanish soccer newspaper Don Balón as the only Norwegian next to Markus Henriksen among the "100 greatest talents in the world".
