Hardelwood
The hardwood (originally hardwood ) is a 115 hectare forest area in the Feldmoching district in the north of Munich , which, however, is politically assigned to the Milbertshofen-Am Hart district ( Am Hart district ).
It is part of the nature reserve Panzerwiese and Hartelholz and part of the protected landscape Hartelholz . It is part of the Munich green belt . The hardelwood is also a part of the fauna-flora-habitat area heaths and loess forests north of Munich .
location
It is located north of the Panzerwiese and south of the A99 between the Munich district of Hasenbergl (west) and the municipal boundary of Oberschleißheim (east) at an altitude of about 492 m above sea level. NN . Oberschleißheim airfield is two kilometers north .
history
The area was originally an electoral hunting ground. In the Middle Ages the area was used as a plague cemetery . At its north-western edge of the forest there had been a skinner since 1580 , the so-called Schinderhütte ( drudgery ). From about 1600 the area belonged among Wilhelm V to the old Schleissheim Palace . It was hunted hard and hares were bred specifically for hunting. Around 1800 the Panzerwiese was also part of the former 335 hectare forest area.
From 1928 a section of the forest area became a military base; It was first built billets and later additionally POW camp, which partly, and partly to the airport Schleißheim to Stalag VII-A belonged. In 1941 a heavy flak battery with six 8.8 guns, four searchlights and bunkers was built there, some of which are still in ruins. In the Hochmutting forest estate there was a branch of the Dachau concentration camp and in the post-war period the camps were used as DP camps .
Flora and fauna
A largely natural oak and pine forest has developed on the original heather site . The edge of the forest towards the Panzerwiese and other open areas within offer habitats for heat-loving animal and plant species. This results in a great diversity of species. However, there are missing today due to the high light and noise pollution stable populations of large mammals such as stand and wild boar . Individuals repeatedly have accidents when trying to occupy the area in the constant traffic load on the A99 and the B13 .
