Hartmann von Moos (born April 11, 1737 in Trimmis , † 1803 in Katharinenstadt ) was a Swiss Reformed clergyman from the canton of Graubünden .

Life

Hartmann von Moos came from a family that originally lived in Malans GR . He first studied at the University of Zurich and moved to Basel in 1758 . In Flims he was accepted into the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod on June 14, 1759 , which allowed him to work as a pastor. In 1762 he took over a pastorate. Until 1775 he had served as pastor in several villages in the canton, then he took over the community of Glaris . There it came to a conflict with the pastor Johannes Leonhardi , who saw influences of Pietism in a funeral sermon by von Moos . On November 26, 1775, von Moos defended himself against the allegations, but had to resign from the pastor's office the following year. He supported the Synod's dispute over the Moravian Brethren . In 1778 the Brethren were looking for a pastor from the Reformed parishes in Katharinenstadt near the Volga in Russia . Because he had supported the fraternity, their leaders noticed him. She offered him the position and in May 1779 von Moos accepted it. About six months later he was given the management of 40 more colonies; He shared the task with Johannes Janett , who was also a pastor from Graubünden. He shaped the local congregations according to the Brethren congregation. In 1803 von Moos died in Katharinenstadt.
